THE GOLD GUIDE

Discover the Beauty of Gold. Find Your Perfect Match.

Warmth, character and enduring appeal. Explore the qualities that make gold special, from its purity and colour to the thoughtful care that helps preserve its beauty.

Understanding Gold Purity

Gold purity is commonly expressed in karats, written as K or kt. The scale divides the alloy into 24 parts: 18K, for example, means 18 parts gold out of 24. The remaining portion consists of other metals that influence colour and performance.

Pure gold is relatively soft. Jewellery makers often alloy it with other metals to suit different designs and wear requirements. Karat alone does not determine durability: alloy composition, construction, thickness and setting also matter.

Gold purity at a glance · Swipe sideways on smaller screens
Purity Nominal gold content Durability considerations Common jewellery uses
9K 37.5% Higher alloy content can offer practical wear resistance; performance depends on the alloy and design. Everyday rings, earrings, chains and other jewellery in markets where this fineness is sold.
10K About 41.7% Often selected for practical everyday wear. Like all gold alloys, it can still scratch or wear over time. Everyday rings, bands, earrings and pendants.
14K About 58.3% Commonly chosen as a balance of gold content and suitability for regular wear. Engagement rings, wedding bands, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
18K 75% Higher gold content; may show wear more readily than some lower-karat alloys, depending on composition and finish. Fine jewellery, diamond and gemstone settings, wedding jewellery and occasion pieces.
24K Near-pure gold Relatively soft and more easily bent or marked; less suited to some delicate settings and demanding daily wear. Selected traditional, ceremonial and specialist jewellery designs.

Percentages for 9K–18K are calculated from the nominal karat scale and rounded for this guide. Commercial fineness markings and actual declared content may differ from these rounded figures. 24K denotes the highest karat category; check the stated fineness rather than assuming every piece is chemically 100% pure. Not every purity is available for every product.

Gold Colours

Colour comes from the alloy and, in some cases, a surface finish. Yellow, white and rose gold can share the same karat purity while looking distinctly different.

Yellow Gold

Warm and classic, yellow gold retains a recognizably golden hue. It complements both simple polished designs and richly detailed settings.

White Gold

Cool and contemporary, white gold is alloyed with metals that lighten its colour. Many pieces have a rhodium finish, which can wear and may need professional renewal; this varies by product.

Rose Gold

Soft pink to warm reddish tones give rose gold its distinctive character. Copper in the alloy contributes to the colour, with the exact shade varying by composition.

Choosing the Right Gold

Your Personal Style

Choose yellow gold for warmth, white gold for a cool-toned finish or rose gold for a soft, romantic accent. Consider how the piece will pair with jewellery you already wear.

Your Budget

For otherwise comparable pieces, more gold content can increase cost. Weight, craftsmanship, gemstones and design also affect the price. Compare complete product specifications, not just karat.

Everyday Wear

Consider secure settings, suitable thickness and your daily routine. Lower-karat gold is not automatically more durable in every design. Ask for guidance if the piece will be worn frequently.

Special Occasions

Let colour, proportions and detailing guide your choice. Higher-karat gold may appeal for its gold content and tone, but delicate pieces still need thoughtful handling and storage.

If you have a known metal sensitivity, ask about the specific alloy and plating. Colour or karat alone does not establish whether a piece is suitable for your skin.

Gold Hallmarking and Certification

A hallmark is a mark applied under a recognized hallmarking system to indicate matters such as precious-metal fineness. Its meaning and verification process depend on the system and jurisdiction. A simple karat stamp should not automatically be treated as independently verified hallmarking.

Gold purity documentation can help identify the declared metal and fineness of a particular piece. Check what the document covers, who issued it and whether it corresponds to the item you are buying.

A diamond grading report describes the diamond it relates to. It does not, by itself, certify the gold content of the setting.

Hallmarking and documentation availability depend on the individual product and applicable regulations. We do not imply that every Aditya Jewellers piece carries the same hallmark or certificate. Before ordering, ask which marks and documents accompany your selected piece. For destination-specific requirements, consult the relevant official hallmarking authority.

Gold Jewellery Care

Clean with care
For plain gold, use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap and a soft cloth or very soft brush. Rinse carefully and dry with a lint-free cloth. If your piece includes gemstones, pearls, enamel, glued components or a specialist finish, confirm a suitable method before using water or cleaners.
Protect the surface
Keep jewellery away from harsh chemicals, chlorine and household cleaning products. Put it on after perfume, lotions and skincare products have dried. Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste and rough polishing.
Remove for demanding activities
Take off jewellery before swimming, bathing, exercising and household chores. Avoid impacts and pressure that may bend a band or loosen a setting.
Store each piece separately
Use individual soft pouches or a soft-lined jewellery box to reduce scratches and tangling. Store away from excessive moisture and direct heat.
Arrange professional attention
Ask a qualified jeweller to inspect worn settings, clasps and damaged surfaces. Have plated finishes assessed before polishing or replating. If a stone or clasp feels loose, stop wearing the piece until it has been checked.

Find Your Perfect Ring Size

A considered fit is the beginning of a lifetime of wearing your ring with confidence.

How to Measure an Existing Ring

Measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits comfortably.

Choose a ring with a similar shape and width.

2

Place it flat on a ruler and measure inside edge to inside edge.

3

Record the diameter in millimetres, excluding the band.

4

Compare your result with the chart.

How to Measure Your Finger

Use a strip of paper or non-stretch string for a reliable starting point.

1

Wrap paper or string around the base of your finger.

2

Mark where the ends meet, comfortably snug.

3

Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres.

How Your Ring Should Fit

Your ring should feel secure while moving comfortably over the knuckle.

The correct fit

Comfortable at the base, with gentle resistance over the knuckle.

Too tight

If it leaves a deep mark or feels uncomfortable, consider a larger size.

Too loose

If it spins or slips over the knuckle, consider a smaller size.

Important Tips

Measure at the end of the day.

Measure more than once.

Wider bands may feel snugger.

Allow for your knuckle.

Avoid measuring cold fingers.

Between Two Sizes?
